The same $100 of USDC can cost a fraction of a cent to send, or several dollars. It depends entirely on the network. Here is roughly what each one costs, and how to choose.
Typical costs to send USDC
These are rough 2026 ranges for a simple transfer. They move with network demand and the price of ETH.
- Base: usually a few cents or less
- Polygon: usually a few cents or less
- Arbitrum and Optimism: usually cents
- Ethereum: usually dollars, and more when the network is busy

Why the difference is so large
Ethereum is the main network, and space in each block is limited and in high demand. Base, Arbitrum, Optimism and Polygon process transactions separately and settle to Ethereum in batches, so the cost per transfer is much lower.
How to choose
- Where is the money going? The receiver's network matters most. An exchange or app that only accepts USDC on one network decides it for you.
- How often will you send? If you send small amounts often, keep your USDC on a low-fee network such as Base or Arbitrum.
- How large is the amount? For very large transfers, some people accept Ethereum's higher fee because it is the main network.
